Post-Inauguration Arts Brunch

Folk singer Peter Yarrow and his daughter Bethany perform at the Post-Inauguration Arts Brunch hosted by Americans for the Arts in association with The Studio Theatre, on January 21. The event celebrated the Inauguration of President Obama, the success of the ArtsVote2008 initiative, and ongoing efforts of Americans for the Arts and its Action Fund to advance the arts and arts education. The Future of the Arts & Arts Education in America

The Americans for the Arts Action Fund, in partnership with NAMM, co-hosted events at both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

At the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Former U.S. Secretary of Education and former Governor of South Carolina Richard Riley moderated a panel on the future of the arts and arts education in America. Congressional Arts Caucus Co-chair Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), Musician John Legend, philanthropist Sheila C. Johnson, and U.S. Conference of Mayors President and Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz were among the featured speakers. Watch the video.
The event in St. Paul during the Republican National Convention took place at the Minnesota Children's Museum. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee moderated the panel which included featured speakers: Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), Executive Director and CEO U.S. Conference of Mayors Tom Cochran; Emmy-award winning actor, dancer, choreographer, producer, director, and author Debbie Allen; Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne; John Rich, acclaimed country music singer, songwriter, and producer; and Missouri Governor Matt Blunt.  Watch the video.

ArtsVoteNH held the first-ever Arts Policy Forum at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, NH. The forum was attended by representatives from the campaigns of Governor Richardson, Governor Huckabee, Congressman Kucinich, Senator Obama, and Senator Clinton. The surrogate speakers spoke about the arts-related backgrounds of their candidates and their support and proposals for the arts looking forward.
