Primary Project Focusing on the Arts Officially Launched

(Concord, NH) Suzanne Delle Harrison was officially introduced as the campaign coordinator for ArtsVoteNH at the Annual Meeting of NH Citizens for the Arts on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Ms. Harrison was the keynote speaker at the meeting held at the Kimball-Jenkins Estate, a visual art school and museum in Concord. "In today's high paced world, often it is the arts that get pushed to the periphery," Ms. Harrison stated. "However, the arts can be part of the solution for many of society's problems and the goal of ArtsVoteNH is to secure bold, new policy proposals in support of the arts and arts education in America from candidates in the 2008 Presidential Primary."

The ArtsVoteNH project was created by forming a partnership between the local, NH Citizens for the Arts, and the national, Americans for the Arts Action Fund, making this initiative a model in the arts advocacy movement. In her speech, Ms. Harrison recognized the city of Portsmouth for incorporating a cultural plan in the city's master plan. In addition, she discussed numerous agencies in the federal government that can assist arts groups in their mission. For the full text of the speech, go to www.artsvotenh.org.

Ms. Harrison also asked for volunteers to help in ArtsVoteNH's efforts to attend house parties, write letters to the editors, and blog about meetings with candidates. The organization is also looking for assistance furnishing their new office in Concord. Anyone interested in working with ArtsVoteNH should contact Suzanne Delle Harrison at sdelle@artsvotenh.org or 603-703-4414.

ArtsVoteNH is jointly funded by New Hampshire Citizens for the Arts, a nonprofit, nonpartisan statewide organization that advocates for the arts to benefit NH citizens as well as the Arts Action Fund in Washington, DC, an independent, national organization related to Americans for the Arts.
