The 2nd Annual Ohana Arts Fall Festival of Music kicked-off on October 30th with a sold out concert in Oahu, HI. Festival organizers see this as smashing success for an event that is only in its second year. Arts Action Fund Member Laurie Rubin, the Festival’s Associate Director said, "We were sold out for our concert on Sunday.” The concert featured a performance of Faure’s Requiem by the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble.
The weeklong festival, produced in conjunction with the Hawaii Alliance Francaise, pays tribute to French composers and brings together local Hawaiian and mainland musicians. The week’s events will include partnership concerts with the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Public Radio and the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus.
The Momenta String Quartet of New York City will be performing throughout the week, and will also be giving Master Classes at both the University of Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University. “It is our pleasure to introduce one of the most exciting emerging string quartets from New York City”, said Artistic Director Jennifer Taira. Other events include a night-long tribute to French Chamber Music, and a new production of Francis Poulenc’s one-woman chamber opera La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice).
