Hillary Clinton: “The arts and culture are important in their own right”

On Thursday, October 29, 2015, Hillary Clinton expressed multiple reasons for her support of the arts at a campaign event in Littleton, New Hampshire.

At the event, held at Littleton High School in New Hampshire's "North Country", an audience member asked about how the arts can stimulate economic development in small communities such as those that dot the North Country.

The former First Lady and Secretary of State first stated: "I believe that the arts and culture are important in their own right... but they're also important drviers for economic growth, tourism, and attracting young people.

Clinton detailed a story from her time as the junior U.S. Senator from New York where she revamped industrial biildings into artists' studios and homes. "I became convinced that a lot of wonde, like this one, could be magnets for young people, and particularly for artists and other creative types.”
