Remembering Madeleine Berman

Posted on: Feb 5, 2018

The Americans for the Arts Action Fund is saddened by the passing of Mrs. Madeleine Berman this morning.

Madge was an Americans for the Arts Board Member Emeritus, who was committed to arts advocacy in both her home city of Detroit and across the nation. In addition to her leadership with Americans for the Arts, she was a charter member and long-time supporter of the Arts Action Fund. Madge was a founding board member of Concerned Citizens for the Arts in Michigan, initiated the Michican Governor’s Arts Awards, served as vice chair of the Michigan Council of the Arts, and implemented a plan to establish the first Detroit Arts Council. On a national scale, Mrs. Berman served on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities during both the Clinton and Obama administrations.

Her support, leadership, and generosity were instrumental to the Arts Action Fund from its founding in 2005 to today. You can read her obituary here
