Stimulus Funds Serve as a Ray of Light

Posted on: Sep 8, 2010

Federal funds have had a large impact on Broward County, Florida. In fact, funds from the federal economic stimulus package saved a total forty-seven jobs in the arts at 17 different cultural organizations. To see how these funds impacted her district Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz visited a “Thank You” exhibit hosted by the Broward County Cultural Division as a part of the Arts Action Fund’s 50 States 50 Days campaign.

Each of the 17 cultural organizations that received funds from the federal stimulus to save staff were featured - from the nine local musicians that were participating in an arts education program through Gold Coast Jazz to the position with The Fort Lauderdale Historical Society that manages the largest collection of historical archives in Broward County.

As stated by the Broward County Cultural Division, “An American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) gave Broward County an opportunity to reflect and indeed celebrate recovery in some communities throughout 2010. In the middle of a Great Recession these stimulus recovery funds have been a ray of hope; a bright light. While keeping tabs on budget management and tightening strings for fiscal prudence, it's equally as important to reflect and celebrate what's working for the economy and the community! "
