Spotlight on Congressman Mike Simpson

Congressman Mike Simpson (R-ID) doesn’t represent the bright lights of New York City or L.A. but believes that the arts are important even in the most rural areas of his district.  As the Ranking Member for the Subcommittee on Interior and Environment (where NEA funding originates) and an A arts supporter according to the 2008 Congressional Arts Report Card, Rep. Simpson works hard to ensure that everyone in his district has an opportunity to participate in the arts.

Recently, the Congressman traveled with National Endowment for the Arts Chairman, Rocco Landsman to show him what the arts mean to his state and the impact they have even hundreds of miles away from the bright lights of Hollywood.

In order to advance healthy, lasting support for the arts and arts education we need pro-arts members of Congress.  Check out our Congressional Arts Report Card to see where your member stands on the arts, and then contact them and congratulate them on their support or encourage them to do better.  In an election year, nothing is more important than the voice of constituents and nothing is more important to the future of our country than ensuring the arts and arts education are nurtured and funded.
